Keynote Address for the Africa Rising Conference

By Bill Clinton

Mozambique, May 29, 2014 As prepared for delivery

Thank you for attending the Africa Rising conference. I especially want to thank the International Monetary Fund and the government of Mozambique for hosting and organizing this very important event. I’m grateful that leaders from across every sector are coming together to build on Sub-Saharan Africa’s remarkable economic progress.

While the region as a whole has experienced real economic growth and increased resilience over the last decade, we all know that more needs to be done to ensure that the prosperity is broadly shared, both across national lines and within every country, so that we have a future of shared opportunities and shared responsibilities.

This conference provides a very unique opportunity to leverage the power of creative cooperation to foster that kind of inclusive growth, to improve natural resource management, to increase infrastructure financing and to make sure that Africa will rise together.

I look forward to hearing the results and working with many of you through the Clinton Foundation in the coming years to implement your recommendations. Together we can and we will continue to help Africa rise and move toward the brighter future that all of its people deserve.
